Where dreams are becoming realities

Welcome to our site

Our school, the Hawaii Academy of Arts and Sciences is on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Our school is located in the town of Pahoa, where there are no traditional musical and theatrical outlets or entertainment venues for the people of the community. It is our mission to change this and we hope that you will be able to support us.

Our first production is the world reknown musical "Les Miserables" - School Edition." It will premiere at the Historic Hilo Palace Theater on February 2nd, 2007 for a two weekend run. We are offering both an in-school and an after-school program at the Hawaii Academy of Arts and Sciences Public Charter School to accomodate this show. The theater prograam will be offered no cost to all of the young performers on the East side of the Big Island.

Auditions for this production were Saturday, August 26th at 2 p.m. on the main campus of the Hawaii Academy of Arts & Sciences (HAAS)  and Sunday, August 27th at 2 p.m. on the main campus of Connections Charter School in downtown Hilo (in the Kress Building.) We are currently rehearsing.

The enthusiasm and support from the community is overwhelming. The Big Island of Hawaii is a very attractive retreat for many artists, which makes the fact that we have no major musical theater programs for our youth even more alarming. Our program is starting to offer jobs and opportunities for these adult artists as well as help our budding artists achieve their future goals.

Tickets for the production will go on sale in Mid-November. They will be availible for purchase at the Palace Theater box office

Mission Statement

Our mission is to make the performing arts available to all in our community and evenutually build a theater so that we may have a place to perform, practice, and teach classes.

We want to give the under-served and under-privileged youth in the community chances that they would otherwise never be able to come by and give their dreams a chance to become a reality.

We would also like to give the performing artists of the community not only the chance to be able to showcase their talents through performing, but to share their talents with youth through mentoring and teaching. We would be able to offer them full or part time jobs in our classes and productions.

We would like to entertain the rest of the community by offering outstanding theater at a greatly reduced price.

Mahalo for coming to our site.
